As I write this, I’m about to open The Wizard of Oz with the Ohio Shakespeare Festival! This is an incredibly unique production, with a ground-up folk reinterpretation of the score played live onstage by our amazing cast of actor-musicians. It also features gorgeous hand-painted backdrops, goofy practical effects, and much more! Come for the real live dog and stay for a lovingly crafted Oz that’s unlike any you’ve seen before. I’m also working on Future Perfect, a band / musical co-written with my friend David L. Munnell. It’s sort of a cross between a concept album and a theatre piece, using the life of Yuri Gagarin as a jumping-off point to explore a story about lost love and moving past heartbreak. We’re playing with an eclectic mix of rock styles, drawing inspiration from Bowie, Queen, Spiritualized, Radiohead, Hedwig, and many more.
